The X2-EXIT-006 is a touchless (infrared proximity) request-to-exit button on a 304 stainless steel large plate (115 × 70 × 25 mm), with an adjustable 1–10 cm sensor, dual-colour LED ring, SPDT dry contact (NO/NC/COM), and a 12–24 V DC input. Designed for medical, clean-room, food-handling, government and high-traffic Australian commercial entries where shared-surface contact must be avoided. Supplied Australia-wide by Infront Technologies with a 12-month manufacturer warranty.
In one sentence: Wave a hand 1–10 cm in front of the LED ring and the relay pulses an exit signal to your access controller, maglock or electric strike — no contact, no shared surface, no mechanical wear.
Pictured in an illustrative commercial install — wall, door and hand are not supplied with the product.
THIS IS A REQUEST-TO-EXIT BUTTON — IT IS NOT A COMPLETE ACCESS-CONTROL SYSTEM.
The X2-EXIT-006 provides a clean dry-contact (NO/NC/COM) when a hand approaches the sensor; it does not power, lock or unlock a door on its own. It must be wired into an existing access controller, intercom egress input, or directly across a maglock’s break-contact circuit with a separate 12–24 VDC power supply.

Wave a hand in front of the LED ring and the relay triggers an exit pulse to your access controller or maglock circuit. No mechanical button to wear out, no shared surface to clean, no PIN to remember. The 304 stainless plate handles aggressive cleaning chemicals, the dual-colour LED gives clear standby/activated feedback, and the SPDT contact wires straight into the gear you already have.

Hygiene · 01
An adjustable infrared proximity sensor (range 1–10 cm, set with the small trimmer on the rear) detects a hand and pulses the SPDT relay. The plate stays clean and there is no mechanical micro-switch to wear out under daily traffic. Surface bio-burden stays where you put the cleaning cloth, not where the last visitor pressed their thumb.
A blue LED ring marks the sensor location at a glance in standby; the moment the relay triggers, the ring switches to solid green for unambiguous visual feedback — useful in noisy clinical, food-handling or industrial environments where a beep would be missed.
Build · 02
The faceplate is 304-grade stainless steel, 115 × 70 mm — matched to standard Australian large-plate switch cavities and wall scars. Aggressive cleaning chemicals, alcohol wipes and warm soapy water leave no residue and no plate corrosion.
Mechanical life of the sensor PCB is 100,000 activations tested — the touchless design extends real-world life well past that figure because there is no mechanical actuator to fatigue.

Wiring · 03
12–24 VDC input, SPDT dry contact (NO / NC / COM), screw-terminal block on the rear. Sits on standard 2-core security cable into a controller’s REX input, or directly across a maglock’s break circuit when no controller is fitted.
For surface installs without a cavity, the matching X2-EXIT-016 chrome-plated zinc-alloy back box (115 × 70 × 25 mm) gives you a flush, finished look on brick, render, glass-block or solid timber walls.
Add the back box to your cart separately — the X2-EXIT-016 is not bundled with the X2-EXIT-006. You only need it if you cannot recess the plate into a wall cavity.
Install in 4 steps
01
Cut the wall opening
Use a 115 × 70 mm cavity, or fit the X2-EXIT-016 surface back box for solid-wall installs.
02
Pull 2 × 2-core
One pair for 12 V DC power, one pair for the relay contact back to the controller or maglock.
03
Land the terminals
12–24 V to +/−, controller / maglock break to NO & COM (or NC & COM for fail-secure logic).
04
Tune the range
Adjust the trimmer on the rear for 1–10 cm sensitivity, screw the plate down, test the egress pulse.
A request-to-exit button is used wherever a door is electronically locked but people still need to get out. The X2-EXIT-006’s touchless action lifts it out of the “generic green push-plate” category and into sites where surface contact, cleanability or wear are real concerns.
GP clinics, day surgeries, dental, physio, pathology collection rooms, veterinary — anywhere infection-control protocols frown on shared push buttons. The 304 stainless plate handles alcohol wipes and quaternary cleaners without etching.
Egress that doesn’t require fine motor control. A hand — or the back of a hand, or an elbow — within 1–10 cm of the plate is enough to trigger release. Useful in NDIS-funded fit-outs and aged-care egress routes.
Commercial kitchens, prep rooms, cool rooms, bakeries and butcheries. Hands free of gloves or food residue can leave a hygienic zone without contaminating the door hardware on the way through.
Council facilities, library staff areas, custody and corrections holding rooms, secure mailrooms — sites where a robust, vandal-resistant 304 stainless plate is preferred over plastic faceplates.
Post-COVID office refits where reception, lift lobbies and breakout doors went touchless and stayed that way. Reads as architectural hardware, not as a panic plate.
Where the egress button itself becomes part of the cleaning roster. The lack of a moving actuator means there’s no plunger groove for particles or biofilm to collect in.
Three common egress-button approaches, and where the X2-EXIT-006 sits in the trade-offs.
| Approach | Hygiene | False-trigger risk | Mechanical life | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| X2-EXIT-006 (touchless IR, 1–10 cm) | No contact required | Very low — tight, directional field | No actuator to wear | Mid-tier |
| Mechanical push button (e.g. stainless dome) | Shared touch surface | Effectively zero | Plunger fatigue under traffic | Cheapest |
| Microwave / wide-field motion REX | No contact required | Higher — can trigger from passing foot traffic | No actuator to wear | Highest |
| Capacitive touch plate | Contact required, glove-friendly | Low | No actuator to wear | Mid-tier |
Generalised comparison — product selection should always be made against your site’s egress requirements and the relevant Australian fire/door-control codes.

Sister SKU
X2-EXIT-007
Same touchless sensor on the X2 small plate (115 × 40 mm) for narrow architraves and tight reveal spaces.
Only when wired in series with the maglock’s positive feed (NO & COM contacts) and powered from the same 12 V DC supply. The button is a dry-contact relay, not a controller — it does not contain timing logic, fail-safe override, or alarm interfaces.
The X2-EXIT-006 is designed to detect a hand within 1–10 cm of the plate face — it is not a through-glass sensor. For mullion/glass-door egress, use the small-plate X2-EXIT-007 surface-mounted to the door frame at hand height.
Same touchless electronics, different plate footprint: 006 is 115 × 70 mm (large), 007 is 115 × 40 mm (small). Choose the large plate where you have a standard Australian switch cavity or want a flush, full-size architectural finish; choose the small plate for narrow architraves.
Yes — pair it with the matching X2-EXIT-016 metal back box (sold separately). The back box is chrome-plated zinc alloy, sized exactly to the large plate (115 × 70 × 25 mm), and accepts surface-conduit entry.
There is a small trimmer pot on the rear of the sensor PCB. Turn clockwise to increase the trigger distance (up to ~10 cm), anti-clockwise to tighten it (down to ~1 cm). Test the result with the plate held in its final position so reflections off the wall don’t affect the calibration.
Momentary. The relay closes for the duration the hand stays within the sensing field. Most controllers and maglocks expect a short pulse for the door release time — if your gear needs a sustained close, that’s usually a controller timing setting on the door, not the button.
Yes — the X2-EXIT-006 presents a generic volt-free dry contact (NO/NC/COM), which is the universal REX-input convention. It wires into the request-to-exit / break-glass / egress dry-contact input of any modern Australian access controller without proprietary handshakes or firmware compatibility checks.
No. The infrared sensor field is short-range and directional — 1–10 cm from the plate face, narrowing rapidly past 100 mm. Foot traffic past the wall, hands moving past in the corridor, or someone leaning against the wall beside the plate will not trigger the relay. Wide-field microwave REX sensors are the design that does suffer from incidental-motion triggering — the X2-EXIT-006 deliberately uses a tighter IR proximity field to avoid that.
No — the X2-EXIT-006 is rated for indoor use only. There is no IP rating and the rear electronics are exposed at the screw terminal block. For weather-protected outdoor egress points, use an IP-rated keypad or vandal-resistant button in an IP-rated housing instead.
Yes. Wire each button’s NO & COM contacts in parallel across the same controller REX input (or in series with the maglock+ feed for a direct-cut install). Any button can then release the door. This is common for doors with both a public-side wave plate and a staff-side dome button, or for double-leaf doors with a button on each architrave.
The SPDT dry contact is rated for low-current door-control switching (12–24 V DC at the maglock or strike inrush class typical of REX-input wiring). Always cross-check the latest manufacturer datasheet for the contact rating against the lock you are switching, especially for higher-current strikes — if in doubt, switch through a controller relay rather than directly across the lock.
Yes — mounting screws sized for the X2 large-plate cavity are included. If you’re mounting into the X2-EXIT-016 surface back box, the back box has matching pre-tapped bosses so the supplied screws thread straight in. Wall fixings (plugs / anchors) for the back box itself are not included and must be sized to your wall substrate.

The X2-EXIT-006 is a SELV (low-voltage) REX button. Fire-egress compliance is a property of the whole door assembly — the lock, the controller, the fire-trip wiring and the path of travel — not of the egress button alone. Australian standards (e.g. AS 1428 for accessibility, AS/NZS 1851 for testing, the NCC for egress) apply to the door system; the X2-EXIT-006 contributes a touchless REX where one is required. Always consult your access-control designer and fire-services certifier when adding or modifying egress hardware on a fire-rated door.
None. The X2-EXIT-006 is hard-wired from the existing 12–24 V DC supply; no batteries, no separate PSU, no firmware updates, no replaceable LEDs. The IR proximity sensor and indicator LEDs are solid-state.
X2 access peripherals are stocked, sold and supported Australia-wide by Infront Technologies. We design, install and maintain professional access control systems every day — if you’re unsure whether this is the right exit button for your site, talk to us before ordering.
Low-voltage product (SELV). The X2-EXIT-006 is powered by 12–24 V DC from the existing access-controller PSU or maglock supply — there is no mains wiring inside the unit and no 240 V work is required on the device itself. The plate is intended for fixing with a screwdriver and pre-terminated cable.
When a licensed tradesperson is required. Concealed security cabling is customer cabling under AS/CA S009 and must be installed by an ACMA-registered cabler. Wiring a new mains feed, replacing a GPO, or integrating a dedicated maglock / strike power supply on the building’s mains is the licensed electrician’s job. A standard plug-in 12 V DC adapter in an existing GPO is fine to use as-is.
Specifications in good faith. Specs, dimensions and bundled accessories may change without notice; verify against the latest manufacturer datasheet before ordering. Product appearance and packaging may differ from marketing imagery.
By placing an order you confirm the product is fit for your intended use and that any concealed cabling or maglock / strike integration will be performed by an appropriately licensed tradesperson. Infront Technologies does not accept liability for incorrect site preparation or misuse outside the manufacturer’s specifications.
