TP-Link VIGI C540-4G camera under the VIGI SP6020 60W solar panel on a pole
TP-Link VIGI · 4G solar camera kit

A pan-tilt camera on its own power.
No mains. No NBN. No trench.

This is the VIGI-C540-4G-SP6020: the VIGI C540-4G 4MP full-colour pan-tilt camera and the VIGI SP6020 60W solar power system, sold together. Add a Nano-SIM and a pole and it runs anywhere with sun and 4G coverage.

In one sentence: the VIGI-C540-4G-SP6020 is a TP-Link pole-mounted kit that pairs a 4MP full-colour 4G pan-tilt camera with a 60W solar panel and a self-heating 10.8V 20.8Ah lithium battery, for sites with no power or internet.

Camera and solar system included. SIM, pole and memory card are not.

The kit ships as two cartons: the camera, and the solar system with its bracket.

You also need
  • A 4G data Nano-SIM
  • A pole, 80–120 mm diameter
  • A microSD card, up to 512GB, to record on the camera

For the gate, the shed and the site with no power.

TP-Link’s model for one C540-4G on this system is 4.3 days of running through consecutive rainy days, and 1.8 sunny days to recharge from empty while it keeps recording. For shaded or cloudy sites, the SP6030 version of this kit has a 31.2Ah battery, rated 6.4 days.

Night view of cattle in full colour on the left and black-and-white infrared on the right

Full colour at night (left) against a typical infrared picture (right). Two white LEDs light the scene to 30 m, and colour sensitivity goes down to 0.005 lux. Switch to the two 850 nm infrared LEDs, also 30 m, when you would rather not light the area up.

VIGI C540-4G 4G pan-tilt camera mounted on a pole above a lake

Camera

4MP. 348° across, 120° up and down.

A 1/3.06-inch sensor at 2560 × 1440 behind a 4 mm F1.6 lens with an 80° horizontal view. Save up to 300 presets and 8 patrols, or let auto tracking follow a person or vehicle. Human and vehicle detection cuts out alerts for animals and moving trees, and the built-in speaker can sound a warning while the white light flashes.

Nano-SIM card going into the slot on the VIGI C540-4G mounting arm

4G

Nano-SIM in, and it is online.

LTE Cat 4 on FDD bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20 and 28 and TDD bands 38, 40 and 41, through two external antennas. The main stream runs from 256 Kbps to 3 Mbps with H.265+, so you decide how much data it uses. Footage records to a microSD card in the camera, up to 512GB, whether or not the signal holds.

VIGI SP6020 solar panel front with the C540-4G camera, and rear view of the galvanised steel bracket

Solar

60W panel. A battery that heats itself.

A Grade-A monocrystalline panel, 690 × 516 × 30 mm, under 3.2 mm tempered glass in an aluminium frame, on a galvanised steel bracket that tilts from 5° to 55°. The MPPT controller charges a 10.8 V 20.8 Ah lithium battery that warms itself, so it charges down to −30 °C. Battery level, power use and low-battery alerts show in the VIGI app.

How it goes in

From the pole to the first alert.

01

Check signal and sun

Test 4G coverage at the pole with your SIM. Pick a spot where the panel faces north with no shade through the day.

02

Clamp it to the pole

The bracket fits a pole of 80 to 120 mm diameter. Set the panel tilt from 5° to 55°, close to your latitude.

03

SIM, card and power

Fit the Nano-SIM and a microSD card in the camera, then plug the camera’s 12 V DC lead into one of the three outputs on the solar system.

04

Add it to the VIGI app

Add the camera, draw the detection areas for people and vehicles, and turn on alerts. Battery level and power use show in the app too.

Pair it with

What this kit does not include

Storage

A high-endurance microSD card

Up to 512GB. Our SanDisk High Endurance 256GB suits continuous recording.

Data

A 4G Nano-SIM

From a carrier with coverage at the pole. A data-only plan is enough.

Mounting

A pole, 80–120 mm

Not included. Allow for a 13 kg system and a 690 × 516 mm panel in the wind.

More battery

The SP6030 kit

The VIGI-C540-4G-SP6030 has the same camera and panel with a 31.2Ah battery.

Where it is used

Places a cable will not reach.

Farm gates and sheds

Watch a gate, a fuel tank or a machinery shed a long way from the house.

Construction sites

Up on a pole before the power is connected. Move it when the job moves.

Rural driveways

See who comes in, in colour at night, and talk to them through the speaker.

Pumps and water tanks

Keep an eye on remote infrastructure with no power or data line to it.

Depots and yards

Cover a laydown yard or car park where trenching a cable is not worth it.

Holiday homes and blocks

Check on an empty property or vacant land from the VIGI app.

Common questions

Does this kit need mains power or an internet connection?

No. The camera runs from the 60W solar panel and 20.8Ah battery, and sends video over 4G through a Nano-SIM. It needs sun on the panel and 4G coverage at the pole.

Is a SIM card included?

No. Use a 4G data Nano-SIM from a carrier with coverage at the site. The pole and the microSD card are not included either.

Which mobile bands does the camera support?

LTE Cat 4 on FDD bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20 and 28, and TDD bands 38, 40 and 41. It also lists WCDMA bands 1, 5 and 8, but Australian 3G networks have closed, so use a 4G plan.

How long does it run with no sun?

TP-Link’s model for one C540-4G on the SP6020 is 4.3 days of consecutive rainy days, and 1.8 sunny days to recharge from empty while running. Season, shade and panel angle change the result. The SP6030 kit is rated 6.4 days.

Does it keep recording if the 4G signal drops?

Yes, to a microSD card in the camera, up to 512GB. You need 4G coverage to watch it live, play footage back remotely or get alerts.

Can it see in colour at night?

Yes. Two white LEDs light the scene to 30 m for colour video, with colour sensitivity down to 0.005 lux. It can also use two 850 nm infrared LEDs to 30 m for black-and-white night video.

How far does it pan and tilt?

Pan is 0° to 348° and tilt is 0° to 120°. It stores 300 presets and 8 patrols, and auto tracking can follow a person or vehicle. The lens is a fixed 4 mm with an 80° horizontal view; there is no optical zoom.

What size pole do I need?

A pole of 80 to 120 mm diameter, not included. The bracket arm holds the panel 400 mm off the pole, and the panel is 690 × 516 × 30 mm. The solar system weighs 13 kg.

Will the battery work in cold weather?

Yes. The battery heats itself, so it charges from −30 °C to 45 °C and runs from −30 °C to 60 °C. The camera is rated −30 °C to 60 °C.

How much mobile data does it use?

It uses data when you watch live, play back remotely or receive alerts. Recording to the microSD card uses none. The main stream bit rate is adjustable from 256 Kbps to 3 Mbps, with H.265+ compression.

Can I talk to people through the camera?

Yes. It has a built-in microphone and speaker for two-way audio, and it can sound an audible warning and flash its white light when it detects someone.

Who sells and supports the VIGI-C540-4G-SP6020 in Australia?

Infront Technologies stocks it, ships it from Australia and supports the warranty. The camera and solar system datasheets are on the Attachments tab.

Supported by Infront Technologies.

Camera and solar system datasheets attached. Call 1300 736 970 for help picking a site, a SIM plan or a bigger battery. Trade pricing is on the account.

Installation and safety

Extra-low voltage. The camera runs on 12 V DC from the solar system. There is no mains connection on the pole and no electrician is needed for the kit itself.

Working at height. The solar system weighs 13 kg and the panel catches the wind. Use a pole and footing rated for the load, and the right access equipment to fit it.

What it does not do. There is no optical zoom (fixed 4 mm lens), no SIM, pole or memory card in the box, and it will not work on 3G. Figures are from the TP-Link VIGI C540-4G (4mm) 1.0 and VIGI SP6020 1.0 datasheets.
