Akuvox 2-Wire Systems

2-wire IP intercom kits and converters — reuse existing analogue cable for power and data.

Typical BOM is a 2-wire door station, a 2-wire indoor monitor, and NC-2 / NS-2 / NX-2 conversion where the job meets an IP backbone.

Akuvox 2-wire IP intercom systems Australia

Shop Akuvox 2-wire IP kits and converters for analogue upgrades — keep the existing two-wire run when you modernise villa or apartment intercoms.

2-wire variants of door phones and indoor monitors carry power and signalling on a single pair. Network converters bridge those runs onto IP where needed.

Packaged villa kits speed specification; individual converters suit staged upgrades.

  • 2-wire door + indoor — R20 / E12 / C313 / S562 2-wire variants
  • NC-2 / NS-2 / NX-2 — network converters and 2-wire switches
  • Villa kits — packaged retrofit kits
  • Less recabling — upgrade without pulling new Ethernet everywhere

Akuvox 2-Wire Systems FAQ

When should I choose 2-wire over PoE?

Choose 2-wire when existing analogue intercom cable is good and pulling new Ethernet is expensive or impractical. Use PoE for new builds and easy cable paths.

What do NC-2 / NS-2 / NX-2 do?

They convert or switch between 2-wire segments and IP networking so hybrid sites can keep legacy cable while adding SIP devices.

Can SmartPlus still work on 2-wire?

Yes once the system reaches an IP/SIP path — residents can still answer on the app when the platform is configured.

What is SIP?

SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) is the open standard that VoIP phones use to set up voice and video calls over a network. An Akuvox door station is really a video phone: when a visitor presses the button, it places a SIP call to whoever should answer.

  1. Door stationVisitor presses call
  2. Your networkPoE, Wi-Fi or 2-wire
  3. Anyone you chooseMonitor · app · desk phone · PBX

Why it matters

  • Answer anywhere — an indoor monitor, the SmartPlus app on your phone, an office desk phone or the reception switchboard.
  • Open, not locked in — SIP is an industry standard, so door stations work with existing VoIP phone systems and future upgrades.
  • Standard cabling — runs over normal network cable with PoE, Wi-Fi, or existing two-wire runs through 2-wire adaptors.
  • Scales with the site — the same technology covers one house or hundreds of apartments, with call groups and diverts.

SIP vs a traditional intercom

Older analogue intercoms use proprietary wiring and only talk to their own handsets. A SIP system is part of your network, so it can ring phones, forward to mobiles after hours and be managed remotely.
