Akuvox NC-2 is the small Ethernet to 2-wire adaptor in the Akuvox 2-wire system. Used alone with a 48 V supply it links a 2-wire door phone to your network; used with an NS-2 or NX-2 it gives a standard IP door phone Ethernet and PoE over an existing pair.

The bridge between Ethernet
and two-wire cabling.

The AK-NC-2 is Akuvox’s NC-2 adaptor. A switch on the unit selects how it works: Master mode connects a 2-wire door phone to your LAN using a 48 V supply, and Slave mode lets an NS-2 switch or NX-2 adaptor drive a standard PoE IP door phone over an old intercom pair.

This SKU is one NC-2 adaptor.

You receive one NC-2 and two double-sided mounting tapes. The 48 V power adapter, NS-2 or NX-2, and door phone are separate — or choose the NK-2 kit, which pairs an NC-2 with an NX-2.

One adaptor, two jobs.

Retrofits rarely look the same twice. The NC-2 handles both common cases: bringing a 2-wire door phone onto the network, and putting an ordinary IP door phone on a 2-wire run.

Akuvox NC-2 RJ45 PoE output port

Ports

RJ45 one end, 2-wire the other.

One 10/100 RJ45 port with PoE output, one 2-wire pair terminal and a 48 V DC input terminal in a 113 × 48 × 25 mm metal case.

It mounts with double-sided tape inside a back box, cabinet or ceiling space.

Master mode

A 2-wire door phone on your LAN.

With the switch to the left and a 48 V adapter connected, the NC-2 powers a 2-wire door phone such as the R20A-2 over the pair and connects it to the network through its RJ45.

Slave mode

An IP door phone on a 2-wire port.

With the switch to the right, the NC-2 takes power and data from an NS-2 port or an NX-2 over the pair and outputs PoE Ethernet to a standard IP door phone such as the R20A.

This lets an existing PoE door phone join an Akuvox 2-wire system.

Akuvox NS-2 and NX-2

In Slave mode it takes power and data from an NS-2 port or an NX-2 and gives a standard PoE IP door phone, such as the R20A, its network.

Your LAN, NVR and PCs

Once bridged, the door phone sits on the same network as your NVR and PCs, as in Akuvox’s wiring diagrams.

Common questions

What is the difference between Master and Slave mode?

Master (switch left) is stand-alone: with a 48 V adapter, the NC-2 connects a 2-wire door phone to your network. Slave (switch right) works with an NS-2 or NX-2 to give a standard IP door phone PoE Ethernet over a 2-wire pair.

Is a power adapter included?

No. Master mode needs a 48 V DC adapter. In Slave mode the NS-2 or NX-2 supplies power over the pair.

What is in the box?

One NC-2 adaptor and two double-sided tapes for mounting it. Cables, power adapter and door phone are separate.

How far can it reach?

With a 48 V adapter, Akuvox rates 50 m on 24 AWG, 150 m on 20 AWG and 250 m on 18 AWG cable.

Can it go outside?

No — it is rated −10 °C to +50 °C and not weatherproof. Mount it indoors or inside a protected back box.

Do I need the NK-2 kit instead?

Choose the NK-2 if you want to run an IP door phone from a PoE switch over a 2-wire pair without an NS-2 — it includes the NX-2 partner unit.

A flexible 2-wire adaptor.

Use the NC-2 alone for a single 2-wire door phone, or with the NS-2 switch for an IP door phone on a 2-wire port. For a point-to-point link from a PoE switch, the NK-2 kit includes the NX-2 partner unit.

Installation & safety notice

Low-voltage product (SELV). In Master mode the NC-2 runs from a 48 V DC adapter on its terminal; in Slave mode it is powered over the 2-wire pair from an NS-2 or NX-2, and it supplies PoE on its RJ45. Treat as SELV low-voltage equipment.

When a licensed tradesperson is required. Concealed data and intercom cabling is customer cabling under AS/CA S009 and must be installed by an ACMA-registered cabler. Electric locks, maglocks and lock power supplies may require a licensed electrician or security installer.

Set the mode switch before connecting: left for Master (stand-alone with 48 V adapter), right for Slave (with NS-2 or NX-2).
