Akuvox NK-2 is a matched pair of Ethernet to 2-wire adaptors. The NX-2 takes Ethernet and PoE from your network, sends it down an existing two-wire intercom cable, and the NC-2 turns it back into PoE Ethernet for a standard IP door phone.

Put an IP door phone
on an old two-wire cable.

The AK-NK-2 is Akuvox’s 2-wire adaptor kit. Instead of buying a 2-wire door phone, keep any standard PoE IP door phone — an R20A, for example — and let the NX-2 and NC-2 carry its network and power over the analogue intercom pair already in the wall.

What’s in the kit

One NX-2 adaptor for the network end, one NC-2 adaptor for the door phone end, one Ethernet cable and four double-sided tapes for mounting. The door phone and PoE switch are not included.

No 2-wire door phone needed.

Two-wire Akuvox door phones aren’t the only way to reuse old cabling. With this kit, any Akuvox IP door phone that runs on PoE can sit on an analogue pair.

The pair

Two adaptors, one pair of wires.

The NX-2 sits at the network end, the NC-2 at the door. Between them, a single 2-wire pair replaces a Cat6 run.

Each unit is 113 × 48 × 25 mm with one 10/100 RJ45 port and one 2-wire terminal, small enough for a back box or ceiling space.

Plug the NX-2 into PoE.

Connect the NX-2 RJ45 to a PoE switch port with the supplied Ethernet cable, then land the 2-wire pair on its terminal.

At the door, the NC-2 delivers Ethernet with PoE output to the IP door phone.

Up to 250 m on the old cable.

Akuvox’s wire table rates 50 m on 24 AWG, 150 m on 20 AWG and 250 m on 18 AWG between the power source and the door phone.

Rated −10 °C to +50 °C — install indoors or inside a weather-protected enclosure.

Set Slave mode

Toggle the NC-2 mode switch to the right (Slave).

Network end

Connect the NX-2 to a PoE switch and land the pair on its terminal.

Door end

Land the pair on the NC-2 and patch its RJ45 to the door phone.

Mount and test

Fix both units with the tape, then confirm the door phone powers up and registers.

Common questions

Do I need a 2-wire door phone with this kit?

No. The kit is for standard PoE IP door phones. Akuvox 2-wire door phones (R20A-2, R20K-2, E12S-2) connect to the pair directly and don’t need it.

What is in the box?

One NX-2, one NC-2, one Ethernet cable and four double-sided tapes for mounting.

How does it get power?

The NX-2 takes PoE from your switch. The NC-2 supplies PoE to the door phone at the other end.

How far can it run?

Akuvox rates 50 m on 24 AWG, 150 m on 20 AWG and 250 m on 18 AWG cable.

Which way should the NC-2 switch be set?

Slave mode — toggle to the right — when used with the NX-2.

Can it be mounted outdoors?

Both units are rated −10 °C to +50 °C and are not weatherproof, so mount them indoors or in a protected back box.

Can I connect more than one door phone?

The kit is a point-to-point link for one door phone. For several devices, use an NS-2 switch with an NC-2 in Slave mode on each port that needs an IP door phone.

Reuse the cable, choose any IP door phone.

Use the NK-2 for a single IP door phone on an existing pair. For several 2-wire devices, the NS-2 switch with an NC-2 in Slave mode is the multi-port option.

Installation & safety notice

Low-voltage product (SELV). The NX-2 is powered from PoE on its RJ45 input; the NC-2 provides PoE output on its RJ45 to the door phone. Treat as SELV low-voltage equipment.

When a licensed tradesperson is required. Concealed data and intercom cabling is customer cabling under AS/CA S009 and must be installed by an ACMA-registered cabler. Electric locks, maglocks and lock power supplies may require a licensed electrician or security installer.

Set the NC-2 mode switch to Slave (toggle right) before use.
