Six old intercom pairs,

The AK-NS-2 is Akuvox’s NS-2 2-wire switch. It takes Ethernet from your network and a 48 V or 24 V DC supply, then feeds power and data to up to six Akuvox 2-wire devices over the pairs an analogue intercom used — so a whole house or small building can move to IP without rewiring.

This SKU is the NS-2 switch.

You receive the NS-2 and its DC power cable. The 48 V or 24 V DIN-rail power supply is not included — the Akuvox HDR-60 48 V supply suits it.

Put the NS-2 where the old intercom power supply lived. Each existing pair becomes an IP link for a door phone or monitor, with calls also reaching the Akuvox SmartPlus app.

Power and data down each pair.

Six 2-wire ports each carry power and network to one Akuvox 2-wire device — up to six loads per NS-2 — with one 10/100 RJ45 uplink to your LAN.

Power, Host, Slave and Network LEDs show status at a glance. Larger sites can cascade several NS-2 units over 2-wire.

Distance

Up to 300 m per run.

With a 48 V supply and star wiring (one pair per device), Akuvox rates 300 m on 24, 20 or 18 AWG cable. On 24 V it’s 150 m (24 AWG), 250 m (20 AWG) or 300 m (18 AWG).

Series (daisy-chain) wiring at 48 V: up to 6 devices over 100 m on 24 AWG, 250 m on 20 AWG or 300 m on 18 AWG.

Compatibility

The whole Akuvox 2-wire range.

Works with R20A-2, R20K-2 and E12S-2 door phones and C313W-2 and S562W-2 indoor monitors.

Add an NC-2 in Slave mode on a port to connect a standard PoE IP door phone such as the R20A.

Common questions

Is a power supply included?

No. The NS-2 comes with a DC power cable; it needs a 48 V DC 1.25 A or 24 V DC 2 A supply. The Akuvox HDR-60 48 V DIN-rail supply suits it.

How many devices can it run?

Up to six Akuvox 2-wire devices. Larger systems cascade more NS-2 units over 2-wire.

48 V or 24 V?

48 V gives the longest runs: 300 m in star wiring on 24–18 AWG cable. 24 V reduces star runs on 24 AWG to 150 m.

Can I daisy-chain devices on one pair?

Yes, in series wiring. At 48 V Akuvox rates up to six devices over 100 m on 24 AWG, 250 m on 20 AWG or 300 m on 18 AWG.

Can a normal IP door phone connect?

Yes, through an Akuvox NC-2 adaptor in Slave mode, which gives the door phone PoE Ethernet from an NS-2 port.

Where does it mount?

On a 35 mm DIN rail inside a cabinet or enclosure. It is rated −20 °C to +50 °C, so keep it indoors or in a protected enclosure.

What do the four LEDs show?

Power, Host, Slave and Network status, so you can check supply, cascade and LAN connection at a glance.

Pair the NS-2 with the Akuvox HDR-60 48 V supply for the longest runs. For a single door phone and monitor, the Akuvox 2-wire kit runs without an NS-2.

Installation & safety notice

Low-voltage product (SELV). The NS-2 needs a 48 V DC 1.25 A or 24 V DC 2 A supply (not included), and then powers connected Akuvox 2-wire devices over their pairs. Treat as SELV low-voltage equipment.

When a licensed tradesperson is required. Concealed data and intercom cabling is customer cabling under AS/CA S009 and must be installed by an ACMA-registered cabler. Electric locks, maglocks and lock power supplies may require a licensed electrician or security installer.

The mains side of the DIN-rail power supply must be wired by a licensed electrician. Keep the PLC-S cascade lead at least 5 cm away from the PLC1–6 leads, as Akuvox specifies.
