The SWACC-USBWIFI Swann antenna plugs into a free USB port and puts your DVR or NVR on the home or business 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. Hide the box, skip the Ethernet run, and keep the Swann app working.
Why this Swann antenna
Most Swann systems in Australian homes and shops are wired DVR-4480 / 4580 / 4680 / 5580 / 5680 and NVR-8580 / 8780 class recorders. Those units use this SWACC-USBWIFI USB antenna. If your recorder is in the table below, this is the correct part.
How it connects
Your DVR/NVR already supports the Swann Security app — it normally needs an Ethernet cable to the router. This antenna replaces that cable. Plug it into a USB port, open Network Settings, choose Wi-Fi, and join your 2.4GHz network. Firmware should be V8 or newer.

Set up in under a minute
- Power down the Swann DVR or NVR if your model needs it.
- Plug the antenna into a free USB port (front or back).
- Power up — wait a few seconds for the recorder to detect it.
- Open Network Settings and switch from Wired to Wi-Fi.
- Select your 2.4GHz network, enter the password, Apply.

Swann makes a newer Version 2 antenna as well. That Version 2 does not work on every DVR and NVR. The product on this page is the standard SWACC-USBWIFI antenna. If your recorder is in the table above, this is the correct part — it is guaranteed to work on those models.

Should I buy the Version 2 or this antenna?
Buy this antenna. SWACC-USBWIFI is the USB Wi-Fi antenna wired Swann DVR and NVR recorders actually use. It is a dedicated 2.4GHz stick that runs with the recorder’s network menu and the Swann app. Version 2 is not compatible with every DVR and NVR. If your recorder is in the table above, this is the correct part.
Will a generic USB Wi-Fi dongle work?
No. Swann recorders only accept the genuine Swann USB antenna.
Does it work on 5GHz-only Wi-Fi?
No. This antenna is 2.4GHz only — and that is a strength, not a limitation. 2.4GHz is the more reliable band for a DVR or NVR: it travels further and holds a stable link through walls, floors and cupboards. 5GHz is faster in the same room and drops off with distance. Most Australian dual-band routers still broadcast a 2.4GHz name; connect the recorder to that SSID.
How do I set it up?
Plug it into a USB port, open Network Settings, switch to Wi-Fi and join your 2.4GHz network. Firmware should be V8 or newer.
Which recorders is it for?
The wired Swann DVR and NVR series in the table above, plus compatible Jaycar Concord NVRs. It is not for Swann wireless NVR / SWNVW / MaxRanger hubs.

Should I buy the Version 2 or this antenna?
Buy this antenna. SWACC-USBWIFI is the USB Wi-Fi antenna wired Swann DVR and NVR recorders actually use. It is a dedicated 2.4GHz stick, so it runs seamlessly with the recorder’s network menu and the Swann app — plug in, pick your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi name, done.
2.4GHz is the more reliable band for CCTV. The wave travels further and holds a stable link through walls, floors and cupboards. That is how most systems are installed: the box in a study, wardrobe, garage or another room, not sitting on the router. 5GHz (the band Version 2 leans on) is shorter-range. It looks fine in the same room and drops off as soon as there is distance or building material in the way, which is why it is the weaker everyday choice for a recorder.
This 2.4GHz antenna is the reliable, set-and-forget part. It is the one we stock and the one that keeps a Swann recorder online.
Why can’t my CCTV device see my WiFi network?
Modern routers are designed primarily for phones, laptops and smart TVs. By default, many combine 2.4GHz and 5GHz into a single WiFi name and enable newer security modes. Everyday devices such as CCTV equipment connect most reliably when the 2.4GHz network is clearly available using standard compatibility settings.
Fast fix – what usually solves this?
Fast fix:
Create a dedicated 2.4GHz WiFi name (SSID) for your CCTV gear and set security to WPA2-PSK (AES) on that network.
This aligns modern routers with everyday devices for reliable operation, while your main WiFi can continue using newer security features.
What is an SSID?
An SSID is simply the name of your WiFi network (the name you see when connecting your phone or laptop to WiFi). Many routers use one name for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. CCTV equipment works best when the 2.4GHz network has its own visible name.
How do I change these settings on my router?
- Open a web browser on your phone or computer.
- Type your router address into the address bar (commonly 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).
- Log in using the details printed on the router or modem label.
- Go to WiFi or Wireless Settings.
- Turn off “Smart WiFi”, “Band Steering” or “Combine 2.4GHz & 5GHz”.
- Create a clear 2.4GHz network name (example: MyHome_CCTV).
- Set 2.4GHz security to WPA2-PSK (AES).
- Set channel to 1, 6 or 11 and channel width to 20MHz.
- Save changes and connect your CCTV device to the new 2.4GHz WiFi name.
Will this affect my normal home WiFi?
No. This setup only creates a dedicated 2.4GHz network for everyday devices such as CCTV. Your main WiFi for phones, tablets and computers can continue using newer security and performance features.
Do I need to change router security for my whole network?
No. Only the dedicated 2.4GHz CCTV network needs WPA2 for broad compatibility. Your primary WiFi network can remain on modern security settings.
Will a WiFi extender help?
A WiFi extender can help where distance or walls reduce signal strength. Place the extender midway between your router and the CCTV device and connect your CCTV equipment to the extender’s 2.4GHz network for improved reliability.
