No NBN or network cable needed.
The TP-Link VIGI C540-4G is a 4MP outdoor pan-tilt camera with its own 4G modem. Put a data Nano-SIM in it, power it from a 12 V supply or a VIGI solar system, and watch it from the VIGI app. It pans 348°, tilts 120°, tracks people and vehicles, and sees in colour at night.
In one sentence: the VIGI C540-4G is a 4MP full-colour pan-tilt camera that connects over 4G with a Nano-SIM, records to microSD, and suits sites with no internet such as farms, building sites and holiday homes.
Camera and power adapter included. SIM and memory card are not.
The C540-4G runs on 12 V DC. Use the supplied power adapter where there is a power point, or pair it with a VIGI SP6020 or SP6030 solar system for sites with no power.

For the places a cable won’t reach.
There is no network cable to run and no internet service to connect. Footage records to a microSD card in the camera, and you watch live, play back and get alerts over 4G in the VIGI app or VIGI Security Manager. If a network is handy, the Ethernet port connects it by cable instead.

Full-colour night vision
Colour at night, or infrared if you prefer.
Two white LEDs light the scene to 30 m and the sensor holds colour down to 0.005 lux. Switch to the two 850 nm infrared LEDs, also 30 m, when you would rather not light the area up. Set the lights to auto, a schedule, always on or off.
4G
Nano-SIM in, and it is online.
LTE Cat 4 on FDD bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20 and 28 and TDD bands 38, 40 and 41. The main stream runs from 256 Kbps to 3 Mbps with H.265+, so you can set how much data it uses. Recording to the microSD card uses no mobile data.
Pan, tilt and auto tracking
It turns to follow them.
Pan 0–348° and tilt 0–120° at up to 44° a second. Save up to 300 presets and 8 patrols of up to 8 presets each, or let auto tracking follow a person or vehicle. After a power cut it returns to where it was.

Check the signal
Test 4G coverage where the camera will go, using your SIM in a phone. Pick a spot about 3 m or higher with a clear view.

Mount it
Fix the bracket to a wall or overhead, or use a VMB-350 bracket on a pole. Fit the two antennas.

SIM, card and power
Fit the Nano-SIM and a microSD card in the camera, then connect the 12 V power adapter or a VIGI solar system.

Add it to the app
Add the camera in the VIGI app, set presets and detection areas for people and vehicles, and turn on alerts.

Common questions
Does it need an internet connection?
No. It connects over 4G with a Nano-SIM. It needs 4G coverage at the site to stream live, play back remotely or send alerts.
Is a SIM card included?
No. Use a 4G data Nano-SIM from a carrier with coverage at the site. The memory card is not included either.
Which mobile bands does it support?
LTE Cat 4 on FDD bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20 and 28, and TDD bands 38, 40 and 41. It also lists WCDMA bands 1, 5 and 8, but Australian 3G networks have closed, so use a 4G plan.
Does it need a power point?
It runs on 12 V DC, 1 A. Use the supplied adapter from a power point, or a VIGI SP6020 or SP6030 solar system where there is no power. It is not powered by PoE.
Does it keep recording if the 4G drops?
Yes, to a microSD card in the camera, up to 512GB. You need 4G coverage to watch live, play back remotely or get alerts.
How much mobile data does it use?
It uses data when you watch live, play back remotely or receive alerts. Recording to the microSD card uses none. The main stream bit rate is adjustable from 256 Kbps to 3 Mbps, with H.265+ compression.
How far does it pan and tilt?
Pan is 0° to 348° and tilt is 0° to 120°. It stores 300 presets and 8 patrols, and auto tracking can follow a person or vehicle. The lens is a fixed 4 mm with an 80° horizontal view; there is no optical zoom.
Can it see in colour at night?
Yes. Two white LEDs light the scene to 30 m for colour video, down to 0.005 lux. It can also use two 850 nm infrared LEDs to 30 m for black-and-white night video.
Can I talk to people through it?
Yes. It has a built-in microphone and speaker for two-way audio, and it can sound an audible warning and flash its white light when it detects someone.
Will it work with a VIGI NVR?
TP-Link lists VIGI NVRs for local management only, over the Ethernet port. Over 4G it is designed to record to its own microSD card and be viewed in the VIGI app or VIGI Security Manager.
Can it go on a pole?
Yes. It mounts on a wall or overhead with the supplied bracket, and TP-Link lists the VMB-350 bracket for poles of 70 to 130 mm and the VJB-300 junction box. It is rated IP66.

Installation and safety
Power. The supplied adapter plugs into a standard power point. A new outdoor power point must be installed by a licensed electrician; the 12 V cable to the camera is extra-low voltage.
Working at height. Use a stable ladder or the right access equipment, and have someone with you when mounting a camera under eaves or on a pole.
Privacy and audio. Aim cameras at your own property. Recording conversations is covered by state surveillance laws, so check the rules for your state before turning on the microphone.
