    How It Connects

Your DVR/NVR already supports remote viewing through the Swann mobile app — but it normally needs a network cable from your router. This little antenna replaces that cable. Simply plug it into a USB port on the back of the recorder, then pair it with your Wi-Fi network using the recorder’s on-screen wizard.

    Key Features & Benefits

    Cable-Free Setup

Replaces the Ethernet cable between your router and recorder. No more drilling holes or stringing cable through the roof cavity.

    Hide Your Recorder

Free to relocate the DVR/NVR anywhere within Wi-Fi range — tuck it in a cupboard, study or out of sight to protect your footage.

    Plug-and-Play USB

Connects via a single free USB port on the rear of compatible Swann recorders. No drivers, no fiddly software.

    2.4GHz Range

Uses the longer-range, wall-friendly 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band — better for a recorder tucked away in another room.

    Reliable Remote Viewing

Keeps the Swann Security app, push notifications and remote playback working from anywhere — without trailing cables.

    Genuine Swann Accessory

Designed and tested by Swann for use with their own DVR and NVR security recorders — not a generic dongle.

Set Up in Under a Minute

    1. Power down your Swann DVR or NVR (this is not always required depending on model)
    2. Plug the antenna into a free USB port on the back of the recorder.
    3. Power up — the recorder will detect the antenna automatically.
    4. Open Network Settings on the recorder and switch from Wired (Ethernet) to Wi-Fi.
    5. Select your Wi-Fi network, enter the password and connect.

Before you order — quick checks:

    • Confirm your Swann recorder is listed in the compatibility table above.
    • Make sure your Wi-Fi router broadcasts on the 2.4GHz band (most Aussie home routers do, including dual-band).
    • Check there is decent Wi-Fi signal at the recorder’s planned location — thick brick walls or long distances may need a Wi-Fi extender.
    • Ensure your recorder firmware is up to date.

Not sure if it fits your system? Send us your Swann DVR or NVR model number along with your router brand and we’ll confirm compatibility before you buy. Local Australian support, friendly advice.

WiFi Connection FAQs – CCTV / NVR

Simple setup guidance for modern routers

Why can’t my CCTV device see my WiFi network?

Modern routers are designed primarily for phones, laptops and smart TVs. By default, many combine 2.4GHz and 5GHz into a single WiFi name and enable newer security modes. Everyday devices such as CCTV equipment connect most reliably when the 2.4GHz network is clearly available using standard compatibility settings.

Fast fix – what usually solves this?

    Fast fix:
Create a dedicated 2.4GHz WiFi name (SSID) for your CCTV gear and set security to WPA2-PSK (AES) on that network.
This aligns modern routers with everyday devices for reliable operation, while your main WiFi can continue using newer security features.

    What is an SSID?

An SSID is simply the name of your WiFi network (the name you see when connecting your phone or laptop to WiFi). Many routers use one name for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. CCTV equipment works best when the 2.4GHz network has its own visible name.

How do I change these settings on my router?

    1. Open a web browser on your phone or computer.
    2. Type your router address into the address bar (commonly 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).
    3. Log in using the details printed on the router or modem label.
    4. Go to WiFi or Wireless Settings.
    5. Turn off “Smart WiFi”, “Band Steering” or “Combine 2.4GHz & 5GHz”.
    6. Create a clear 2.4GHz network name (example: MyHome_CCTV).
    7. Set 2.4GHz security to WPA2-PSK (AES).
    8. Set channel to 1, 6 or 11 and channel width to 20MHz.
    9. Save changes and connect your CCTV device to the new 2.4GHz WiFi name.

Will this affect my normal home WiFi?

No. This setup only creates a dedicated 2.4GHz network for everyday devices such as CCTV. Your main WiFi for phones, tablets and computers can continue using newer security and performance features.

Do I need to change router security for my whole network?

No. Only the dedicated 2.4GHz CCTV network needs WPA2 for broad compatibility. Your primary WiFi network can remain on modern security settings.

    Will a WiFi extender help?

A WiFi extender can help where distance or walls reduce signal strength. Place the extender midway between your router and the CCTV device and connect your CCTV equipment to the extender’s 2.4GHz network for improved reliability.

What WiFi settings give the most reliable results for CCTV?

    • Use 2.4GHz for CCTV devices
    • Separate SSIDs for 2.4GHz and 5GHz
    • Security: WPA2-PSK (AES)
    • Channel: 1, 6 or 11
    • Channel width: 20MHz
    • Place router/extender away from metal and large electrical equipment

Tip: Modern routers prioritise phones and laptops by default. Creating a dedicated 2.4GHz network ensures everyday devices like CCTV connect cleanly and stay reliable.
