Is this the white or the black camera?

This listing is the white housing — the standard DS-2CD2387G3-LIS2UY/SL. Hikvision also makes a black version under a separate (Black) suffixed part number, which is a different SKU. All product photos on this page show the white unit you will receive.

Which lens do I get — 2.8 mm or 4 mm?

Hikvision builds this model with a 2.8 mm or 4 mm fixed lens. The 2.8 mm covers a wide 108.8° horizontal view for driveways and entries close-up; the 4 mm trades width for reach (DORI detect 109 m vs 89 m). Confirm the focal length on your order confirmation and packing label before install.

Does it come with a recorder or need a subscription?

No. This is a standalone IP camera — no NVR, hard drive or cloud plan in the box, and no subscription required. Record to a Hikvision PoE NVR, an ONVIF-compatible third-party recorder or NAS, or the onboard microSD slot (card up to 512 GB, sold separately).

How does the strobe and siren deterrent work?

When a linked event fires — for example a person crossing a line you have drawn — the camera can flash its built-in strobe and play an audible warning through the 110 dB speaker. You choose which rules trigger it and when (e.g. only after hours) in the web interface, iVMS-4200 or Hik-Connect.

Can I talk to someone at the camera?

Yes. The camera has an arrayed dual microphone with environment noise filtering and a built-in speaker, so you can hold a two-way conversation from the Hik-Connect app or a compatible NVR — useful for couriers, gates and after-hours challenges.

What does ColorVu with Smart Hybrid Light actually do at night?

The F1.0 aperture and large 1/1.8" sensor keep the image in full colour down to 0.0005 lux. Smart Hybrid Light combines 850 nm IR and a white light (up to 30 m, three modes): run discreet IR, constant colour with the white light, or smart mode that switches to white light only when an event is detected.

How do I power it?

Use PoE IEEE 802.3at (PoE+, Class 4, max 17 W) over a single Cat 5e/Cat 6 run up to 100 m, or a local 12 VDC supply (max 15.5 W). Note the 802.3at requirement — a budget 802.3af-only switch port may not run the strobe, speaker and white light reliably.

Is it OK near the coast?

The housing is IP67 with NEMA 4X anti-corrosion protection (moderate level per Hikvision’s classification) — suited to coastal areas roughly 2 km or more from the shoreline and areas affected by acid rain. For jetties, docks and direct salt-spray exposure, ask us about top-level anti-corrosion models.
