Swann cable & accessory questions
How long can a Cat6 camera cable be?
Up to 100m from the recorder to the camera, which is the limit for network cable carrying power (PoE). Our ready-made cables go up to 80m.
Can I join two cables together?
Yes, with the inline joiner. Keep the join somewhere dry, such as inside the roof or a camera junction box, as the joiner itself is not waterproof.
Will these cables work with my Swann DVR?
No. Cat6 cable is for Swann IP cameras on an NVR. Coax cameras on a DVR use the cable that came with the kit, plus a 12V power supply.
How many cameras can one 12V 2A supply run?
Usually up to four analogue cameras through a splitter, as most draw 200 to 500mA. Cameras with strong infrared or long cable runs are best on their own adapter.
Will a new hard drive keep my old recordings?
No. Footage lives on the old drive. After you fit the new drive the recorder formats it and starts recording again. Your cameras, settings and app access stay on the recorder.
