Run one cable per camera

Cat5e or Cat6 from the recorder to each camera, up to 100 m. PoE carries the power, so the cameras need no power point.

Mount the cameras

Screw the turret base to the eave or wall with the template in the box, then pan, tilt and rotate it to frame the scene.

Plug in the recorder

Connect it to your router and a screen, set the admin password, and the cameras appear on their PoE ports.

Set alerts and the app

Scan the QR code in Hik-Connect, draw line crossing or intrusion zones, tick human or vehicle, and choose light, strobe and siren actions.

Is a hard drive included?

Choose it in the options: No HDD, or a 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10TB surveillance drive fitted and formatted. The standard option is No HDD, for people who already have a drive. The recorder takes two drives of up to 20TB.

How long will it record?

With all 4 cameras recording around the clock on H.265+, a 4TB drive holds roughly 14 to 28 days. Busy scenes and rain use more space; recording on events only stretches it much further. When the drive is full it records over the oldest footage.

Can I watch it on my phone?

Yes. The free Hik-Connect app for iPhone and Android shows live view, playback and AcuSense alerts. On a PC use iVMS-4200 or a web browser.

Do the cameras need a power point?

No. Each camera plugs into a PoE port on the recorder, and that one Cat5e or Cat6 cable carries power and video up to 100 m.

Can I add more cameras later?

Yes. The recorder has 4 free PoE channels. Any Hikvision IP camera plugs straight in, and other ONVIF cameras also work.

Is there enough PoE power?

Yes. At full load the 4 cameras draw up to 68 W, inside the recorder's 120 W PoE budget.

How good is the night vision?

The F1.0 lens and large sensor give colour down to 0.0005 lux. In smart mode the camera stays on IR (up to 30 m) and switches to white light for colour when it detects a person or vehicle. You can also set it to IR only.

Does it record sound?

Yes, and you can talk back. Each camera has two microphones and a 2 W speaker for two-way audio through Hik-Connect. Check state and territory laws on recording conversations and use signage.

Will it stop false alarms from trees and animals?

Mostly. AcuSense classifies people and vehicles in each camera, so motion, line crossing and intrusion alarms can be limited to those targets. Large moving shadows or headlights can still trigger occasionally; tuning the zone fixes most of that.

Will the strobe and siren go off all the time?

No. They only fire for the rules you set, for example a person crossing a line after 10 pm. You choose the light, strobe and siren for each rule and can set a schedule, so it stays quiet when you are home.

Can I install it myself?

Many owners do: the cameras mount with a few screws and the recorder finds them automatically. Concealed cabling inside walls and ceilings must be done by an ACMA-registered cabler under AS/CA S009.

Are the cameras weatherproof?

Yes. The DS-2CD2387G3-LIS2UY/SL is IP67 rated in a metal housing, made for outdoor use in rain and dust. The recorder lives indoors.
