AcuSense runs in each camera, so line crossing and intrusion alarms only fire for the targets you tick. The recorder tags those events, and you can search a day of footage for people or vehicles in seconds.

The cameras

6MP metal bullet, 60 m IR.

The DS-2CD2T66G2-2I records 3200 × 1800 through an F1.6, 2.8 mm lens with a 105° view. Its long hood shades the lens, and the 60 m IR reaches driveways, yards and fence lines.

Day and night

Clear faces, against the light.

120 dB true WDR keeps faces visible against a bright doorway or sky, and the smart IR dims close up so near faces are not washed out. H.265+ keeps the files small.

The recorder

8 PoE ports, 2 drive bays, 8K HDMI.

The DS-7608NI-M2/8P powers every camera through its own PoE port (120 W in total) and records them all at full resolution. It takes two 3.5" drives of up to 20TB each, with HDMI up to 8K and VGA for a local monitor.

How it goes in

From cables to phone alerts.

Run one cable per camera

Cat5e or Cat6 from the recorder to each camera, up to 100 m. PoE carries the power, so the cameras need no power point.

Mount the cameras

Screw the bracket base to the wall or eave with the template in the box, then aim the bullet and lock the joint.

Plug in the recorder

Connect it to your router and a screen, set the admin password, and the cameras appear on their PoE ports.

Set alerts and the app

Scan the QR code in Hik-Connect, then draw line crossing or intrusion zones and tick human, vehicle or both for phone alerts.

Common questions

Is a hard drive included?

Choose it in the options: No HDD, or a 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10TB surveillance drive fitted and formatted. The standard option is No HDD, for people who already have a drive. The recorder takes two drives of up to 20TB.

How long will it record?

With all 8 cameras recording around the clock on H.265+, a 4TB drive holds roughly 10 to 21 days. Busy scenes and rain use more space; recording on events only stretches it much further. When the drive is full it records over the oldest footage.

Can I watch it on my phone?

Yes. The free Hik-Connect app for iPhone and Android shows live view, playback and AcuSense alerts. On a PC use iVMS-4200 or a web browser.

Do the cameras need a power point?

No. Each camera plugs into a PoE port on the recorder, and that one Cat5e or Cat6 cable carries power and video up to 100 m.

Can I add more cameras later?

Not on this recorder: all 8 channels are used. For more than eight cameras, ask us about a 16-channel recorder.

Is there enough PoE power?

Yes. At full load the 8 cameras draw up to 72 W, inside the recorder's 120 W PoE budget.

How good is the night vision?

Smart IR reaches up to 60 m in black and white, and the F1.6 lens gives colour down to 0.003 lux where there is some light, such as street lights.

Does it record sound?

No. The DS-2CD2T66G2-2I has no microphone or speaker. If you want sound, the 6MP turret kit has a microphone in every camera.

Will it stop false alarms from trees and animals?

Mostly. AcuSense classifies people and vehicles in each camera, so motion, line crossing and intrusion alarms can be limited to those targets. Large moving shadows or headlights can still trigger occasionally; tuning the zone fixes most of that.

Why a 2.8 mm lens?

It gives the widest view, about 105°, which suits most homes and shops. It detects a person to about 78 m and recognises a known face to about 16 m. For long narrow areas a 4 mm or 6 mm camera can be added later.

Can I install it myself?

Many owners do: the cameras mount with a few screws and the recorder finds them automatically. Concealed cabling inside walls and ceilings must be done by an ACMA-registered cabler under AS/CA S009.

Are the cameras weatherproof?

Yes. The DS-2CD2T66G2-2I is IP67 rated in a metal housing, made for outdoor use in rain and dust. The recorder lives indoors.

Installation and safety

Low-voltage cameras. The cameras run on PoE from the recorder (802.3af, up to 9 W each). There is no mains connection at the cameras.

Recorder power. The recorder has a built-in power supply and plugs into a standard power point with its mains lead. A new power point needs a licensed electrician.

Cabling. Concealed data cabling is customer cabling under AS/CA S009 and needs an ACMA-registered cabler.

What it does not do. The bullets have no microphone, speaker, strobe or alarm terminals.
